Conosco il primo cd di Tracy Chapman fin dalla sua uscita (1988) e per un lungo periodo è stato tra i dischi che più utilizzavo per provare le qualità audio dei vari sistemi....l'ho ascoltato migliaia di volte in una infinità di soluzioni ed occasioni con i più svariati sistemi, è uno di quei dischi (il cd originale e non la ristampa successiva che suona in tutt'altro modo...) che vi dice la verità, tutta la verità, nient'altro che la verità...dandovi indicazioni inequivocabili sulle capacità di un sistema di estrarre iinformazioni dalla registrazione...perchè di informazioni strumentali in secondo piano questo disco è pieno...ne ero da tempo consapevole ma oggi me ne sono accorto una volta in più scoprendo dettagli che non avevo mai ripeto MAI ascoltato uscire da questo disco!
Pensavo di conoscerlo come le mie tasche...oggi ne ho scoperto uscire altri suoni...sono rimasto a bocca aperta come se avessi messo un disco mai ascoltato prima.
Non lo avevo ancora ascoltato da quando tutto il sistema in mansardina con le DSL è in versione NTS...beh signori...un'esperienza...

Max.. ci puoi consigliare qualche altro disco di test?
Io ho solo roba da audiofilo ortodosso --- che il CCI abbia pietà di me!

Posso testimoniare, avendolo ascoltato anche io nella recentissima visita ravennate, che il sistema in mansardina estrae da quel disco ( e da tutti quelli che gli dai ' in pasto ' ..) informazioni ambientali tali da rendere ogni ascolto una esperienza nuova..... consiglio vivamente a tutti di provare cosa un sistema realmente trasparente è in grado di restituire....

Un effetto simile ( deciso incremento della trasparenza e della naturalezza...) si è avuto nei miei impianti con l' introduzione del lettore yamaha con la modifica NTS effettuata ....

A very good record indeed. I've always thought it was well-recorded and mixed, but it's not one of those that get many mentions as a "test" record of choice.

I'll be reading the other topic on "audiophile" records with great interest!

It is not one of those that are mentioned as audiophile discs simply because it ruthlessly highlights the systems' transparency defects. Audiophile discs are normally discs where the effect is sought with added reverb and few recorded instruments (to avoid the system confusing). There are millionaire systems where Tracy Chapman's record is unlistenable....
It's not easy for the recording industry to make records for systems that don't play in 99.9% of cases.
And generally it is the best discs that receive criticism from audiophiles due to the monstrous masking errors of their audio systems (often regardless of the amounts invested).
On the other hand, "audiophile" discs listened to in full CCI systems correctly placed in the room ruthlessly highlight their tricks (starting with the reverb added in industrial quantities)

Fully agree with your comments related to the audiophiles records (few instruments and most of the time with microphones close to the instruments…), for your information this record (Tracy Chapman) was one of the reference record use by the most famous (serious) review in France named « la nouvelle revue du Son » in the 90’s. The chief redactor of this review was Jean Hiraga, someone famous in the audiophile’s world…
