In un mondo prettamente egoista ove gli opportunisti / sfruttatori del lavoro altrui sono un tipo di incontri ormai comuni, trovare qualcuno che abbia l'animo gentile e comprensivo non è cosa di tutti i giorni. Credo che questa lettera esca dagli schemi in un modo che a me appare come una fresca boccata di ossigeno. Di lettere di ringraziamento ne ho ricevute diverse in passato (anche cartacee e per fortuna anche da italiani) ma prima d'ora nessuno tra coloro che non conosco personalmente si era offerto addirittura di regalarmi un apparecchio semplicemente come atto di ringraziamento per il mio lavoro. Ovviamente non posso accettarlo ma è per me un regalo il fatto stesso di riceverla una lettera di questo genere.

It’s no surprise to me either… I can never underestimate the value of what you’ve given to me and I’m not offering anything like that to you because I know I’d have a hard time shipping anything to Italy these days… Likewise, all the LT products/modifications, which I’m very keen on trying out, are out of reach for me these days - with PayPal not working, I am not able to wire the monies easily any longer and, again, shipping will be difficult and one thinks very expensive…

I fondly remember the days when I used to organise concerts here in Russia… Those days ended abruptly sometime in Feb 2020 where we had to cancel two gigs because of impending lockdown because of that virus… With Brits and Americans in the line-ups, it also meant at least a couple thousand bucks gone down the drain…

…In the old days I would’ve invited you to come over and I’d organise a Grundig/LT showcase here in Moscow… If only I had known about that at the time…

…I’m also not surprised that there are good souls around because, again, when I was dealing with improvised music practitioners (and 95% of those musicians whom I’d brought to Russia were those who play improvised music) I found they were not about money, business, or anything like that. They were about creative process in the main. (There are many parallels there to the world of hi-fi as well). Oftentimes they played for very modest fees that (very good) modern day “indie” artists and above all their vulture agents, wouldn’t even begin to consider…

Thank you for your testimony Boris, I believe that we all live in anguish of what is happening to the world and unfortunately we can't do anything about it. I hope I can still be alive the day Russia returns to be at peace with the world and have the opportunity to know you and your beautiful country.
